Operation of an EL/32W
Hi guys... I have a World Designs EL34/32W Integrated seen below here at chez orbscure to demo:
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...ab5cdacc_b.jpg However, as it was supplied as seen and without a manual, I need to determine a couple of things before I fire her up: 1. What does the three-position unmarked knob in the centre of the fascia do? 2. What are the two toggle switches on the right-hand side for and how should they be set? Possibly to select triode and pentode modes? 3. Is a .pdf of the manual available please? Many thanks in advance Pete |
Re: Operation of an EL/32W
Hi Pete and welcome,
It looks like KIT34 integrated but there's a chance it's more home-brew. The centre knob position would/may still be the Tape/Source selector switch. Let us know the valve line up and if it has EI (square) transformers or a large torroid (round) mains transformer. Remove the base and see if it is all tagboard construction or built on a pcb. Check also the toggle switches on the side which weren't on any WAd/WD amps. Yes schematics are available but you will need to investigate a little first. Rich |
Re: Operation of an EL/32W
It would be helpful to post pics with cover taken off and also inner workings.

Re: Operation of an EL/32W
Here we go chaps... some top shelf valve amp inner pictures for you..;)
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/dw3j3lrz1...iSUFCKssa?dl=0 The valve compliment is: 2 x ECF80/P2JM1 4 x Sovtek EL34/6CA7 2 x 5U3C/OTK76 |
Re: Operation of an EL/32W
Certainly looks 'home brew', toggles appear to be speaker output switches? and as already suggested the middle knob is likely tape/source related?

Re: Operation of an EL/32W
It is a KIT34 and looks very well put together, the switches on the side are not original nor is the centre knob, also this is a World Audio Design product, not a World Designs', the two names are not the same company. I would now switch on and see what the switches do, there are also additional phono sockets, the switches may be something to do with them. Bob

Re: Operation of an EL/32W
Be careful, those switches look like they are connected to the transformer primary, may be for selecting 120-240 volts, if so it needs to be removed. Bob

Re: Operation of an EL/32W
Thanks for the additional input chaps... interesting that it appears to be a World Audio Design product, which seems more or less identical to the item linked below, sans the center knob and toggle switches:
https://www.watfordvalves.com/produc...il.asp?id=6489 It was mentioned to me that the toggle switches were associated with an option to switch between triode mode for a sweet treble and pentode mode for more power/not so sweet treble... I was also told to switch the unit off for at least five minutes before toggling either switch... make of that what you will :) |
Re: Operation of an EL/32W
Well Pete, if this was mine, I would return everything to original, save for the tape monitor, if that is what that centre knob is, and this I would bypass for better SQ, unless you intend to use a three head tape machine with it. Bob
