Report from my first hifi show..
NORTHERN SOUND AND VISION
Rule 1: Everything in a show will sound ****, apart from a handfull of set-ups. TRUE: Everything DID sound **** apart from (in no particular order) Doug Brady's room (WB carbon fibre speakers playing my Gyrodec setup) Pinsh audio' speakers (ribbon tweeter thingy, there really was a difference) Icon Audio (KT88 classic 40i amplifier, my first exposure to a valve amp that could play bass. Sounded more expensive than it was) That MBL speaker demo (looks like a dalek and sounds great) I came away thinking just how good my humble kit sounds.... Anyway, a quick question.. Does anybody know much about the new Icon Audio KT88 amp, the stereo 60 (KT88). It claims to have around 65 wpc. Is this possible, how is it done, has anybody any opinion on its sound, since I thought the 40i classic KT88 sounded gorgeous. Thanks again for your help in guiding me through the minefield of overpriced **** that often calls itself hifi, Dave. |

Re: Report from my first hifi show..
am supriced its only running at 65w - you can get alot more from a pair of kt88's,just depends on the output transformers.

Re: Report from my first hifi show..
Dave,
It will be class AB running high voltages and using grid bias. Probably about as far towards class B as is poss without it starting to sound like a PA amp. As Rob says up to 100W is poss in class B. Rich |
