Default 50 Watt amplifier

Hi all,
Does anyone have a need for a 50Watt amplifier based on KT120 or the like?
Sensitivity about 500mV, u/linear with feedback.
Answers in a brown paper envelope here please

I know a friend who was thinking of building something along those lines.

Interesting!
I am at present cobbling together one/two to try out. I have a WD 300B pp, the early type, but really needed a bit more power for my ProAc D28s so am trying the GEC 88/50, but using KT120 instead. Should have them both finished in a week or so, so wondered if there was any interest should WD decide to make them as a kit.
Before anyone else leaps on me, I have no idea if Matthew would want to go this route and no idea of cost. Considering you can buy something similar from Icon audio for about £2K this route may not be commercially viable
That's all really.

John,

Hi John,
This is very interesting! I would love to hear a more powerful valve amp driving my Quad ESLs, but in this instance it has been suggested that, ideally, the ESLs are driven by an amp of about 80-100W. So that means something comparable to the Quad 11 eighties, or the Icon Audio MB845s. I have heard the MB845s, but it was a long time ago, before I really appreciated valves.
I have often read articles in HiFi World by Noel Keywood and have been told by Ron & Steve at One Thing Audio that the Quads are much happier with more power (although the 30w output by the 300bpp stereo amp is adequate), and that there is less damage to the speakers over time.
I too would be very interested to hear what Matthew has to say on this matter.

Justin
