Re: Air core coil for the wd25tex coil anyone.
OK Robert, on this forum and just for you I shall refrain from using that word and I´ll call them headphones but to me that conjures up visions of Spitfires and Lancasters that are only good for speech. To me, cans are bigger than that and related to music just as earphones are smaller.
Still, perhaps you´re right. We should choose our vocabulary as a function of who we are talking to. After all we do simplify our language when we speak to people whose mother tongue is not English so why not complicate it when it is. After living so long away from home, maybe I consider English as a tool to communicate with the World and not as an heirloom. Last edited by VantheMan; 30th March 2021 at 09:23 PM. |

Re: Air core coil for the wd25tex coil anyone.
I have to admit that I have done worse things, I sometimes mistakenly call ear defenders headphones..I would never dream of using my Focal headphones when using a kangoo.

Re: Air core coil for the wd25tex coil anyone.
Ah yes, Headphones I think the term Cans came mostly from Recording Studio terms back in the day when engineers thought they were cool and know what there were doing and smoking things in the studio
Even the term cans is used today in my local community Radio studio where I was putting to gather a weekly one-hour Blues show before covid 19 stopped it dead in its tracks no pun intended I hope to be back in the studio this year. as it's great fun in there. Anyway, as it happens I am now looking at replacing my aging Sennheiser HD650s CANS Sorry Headphone any thoughts on a replacement for them with today's models Colin

Re: Air core coil for the wd25tex coil anyone.
Hi Colin, the Sennheiser headphones are very good you could try something like the hd800s which would be a good improvement and still remain with the Senniheiser sound, I had back in the 70's the light weight ones with the bright yellow foam pads.
I am using the Focal Elear at the moment, a really great sounding headphone, one friend who tried them remarked that they sound like speakers, not closed in at all. I would like to try out the Stax and Audeze headphones sometime. Many headphones are not perfect and many users will use an equalisers to adjust the sound to suit. On some of the headphone forums which there are many now, users will have a whole collection of headphones as they have found that certain headphones suit different styles of music and also they enjoy the different element of sound that each one brings. Another requirement is to find one that fits to your head and feels comfortable to you as a badly fitting headphone can feel very tiring after a while. Like all audio kit it's not always a good idea to buy without an audition, but that is not always easy in this lock down. Chris. Last edited by Chris; 31st March 2021 at 10:08 PM. |

The Beeb hasn't spoken English for years.
Sad, innit? Anyway, Linn Headphones doesn't sound the same. Last edited by Baggy Trousers; 2nd April 2021 at 08:39 PM. |

Read their website. They don’t write it either.

Quelle domage! My super-sophisticated joke seems to have passed either unrecognised or misunderstood. For the benefit of those using oxygen-free binder twine in their systems, I'll give you a hint - Linn Kans! Geddit?
Oh well, never mind. Please yourselves. |
