Warped record fix....maybe...
Hi all
For anyone who buys vinyl lps from charity shops, charity book fairs etc I thought I would share my experiences with a couple of clean but as it turned out very warped records that I picked up in January this year. Both the pictured discs, John Mayall and Huey Lewis played but gave my tonearm quite a test! My solution was to sandwich both between two sheets of pine under the weight of a substantial granite tile. These were left alone for the last few months. Maybe due to vinyl manufacturing differences from a ‘60s Decca pressing to the thinner ‘80s pressing but I was very pleased to discover tonight that John Mayall LP is pancake flat whereas Huey has “improved” but still quite a bit out of shape. Anyway, I’m patient and this is heaps cheaper than the Furutech record flattening machine. Cheers Phil. |
