Angry Poorly WD88va

Hi All

I have a WD88 power amp and the left channel has stopped working. The bottles glow beautifully as usual but .... no sound.

I swapped the smaller valves around - still the same.

Any ideas anyone? I live in Stockport....

Thanks in advance,
Aidan

Hi Aidan,
I’d continue swapping parts and connections from L to R, the power valves and source input phonos, and try using another input selector position if it is an integrated amp.
If the problem is still on the same channel check the input wiring.
Then do a check of running voltages, against the test voltages shown in the build sheets, and comparing the 2 channels.

Hi Aidan, before we throw loads of advice at you can you tell us, is it a integrated or power amplifier, as Richard has suggested, if the later, what is the pre amp and sources and can you describe what happened ? IE did it stop working abruptly or did the sound fade out and so on. All this information will help and stop confusion with others trying to help. Bob

Has the speaker stopped working? Try swapping the speakers.

Hi All

Thanks for the prompt help (been away for a few days so forgive me for my tardy reply). It's great to know that there is help and backup of this quality available.

It is a power version (the inputs at the rear are are covered by black circular patches).

Confession time: I've swapped all leads one at time and am confident it is the amplifier - and at that point I have to step back and admit I don't own a soldering iron or voltmeter and wouldn't know how to use one lol.

Is there anyone on the board, or does anyone know somebody who will investigate and fix the issue for me? I would deliver & pickup within 3-4 hours of Manchester.

Kindest regards, Aidan

Hello Aidan,

What pre amp are you using? Is the problem there on all sources? Try another source from the pre, something like a fm tuner or cd player or possibly another pre, if you have one.
