Hi-i saw these on e-bay

Dont know if they are worthy of a Fostex driver for those with no woodworking skills !

Acoustas come up regularly on eBay and they usually sell for peanuts. They are big, wide and deep so not liked by many. I know a couple of people who have bonfired their Acoustas and OTOH have heard a pair sound really wonderful with a very eccentric PP amp that was all transformers and el84s.

What Fostex would make of them I haven't a clue; can't sound too bad(?!)

If they were local to me and were going for say £20 and I had the space, I'd try them.

As it is I have had three pairs of Acoustas myself; two with PMC6s and one with PMC7cs (ancient but nice). They are just too dam'big. It takes away all the enjoyment you can glean from them.

must admit that my friend Allen has a pair and they sound wonderful with his DRD 45,

My feeling would be that Fostex wouldn't take to them too well, there are far better solutions

I used to have a pair like those up in the loft but one day many many years ago they were in the way when I was plumbing and I have to hold my hand up and say that I demolished them They looked like those except the single speaker was in the middle of the cabinet and the horn opened out at top and bottom. The cones were shot (little did I know they're repairable for a price), the foam had rotted around the outside and the horny bits in the middle were ripped out. The cabinets were rough but strangely the grills were OK. Julie thinks they were victim of a party once and got trashed in the late70's-early 80's It didn't feel right at the time (they weren't mine anyway) but getting the heating working was more of a priority then and we were proper broke (like the speakers I s'pose).

I can tell you they were pigs to smash up within the confines of a loft space so thumbs up to Lowthers cabinet builders.

I'll hang me 'ead in shame for a while.
