Hi colin, good to see your project is making some good sounds.
What Dac is it and what chip does it use?
I look at these Chinese ones all the time(I presume it is) and wonder about the screw connections, do you feel they are adequate?

I will give you a link (again )

Just buy one, it's not expensive and you won't be disappointed.

The DAC chip is AK4396.

I wonder about the screw connections, do you feel they are adequate? YES.

Hi John
Yep this is the DAC that Philip was on about it is highly recommended by other over at audio talk as well I have it connected to my marantz 52SE makes this player in to a different animal as does with the arcam
I don’t like the screw connections ether but that’s easy to change the dac is a tweakers delight as its availably as a kit or built just add the TXs i am getting a second one in kit form and adding a valve buffer this dac has only cost me about £54 quid so far just get one as philip has said its a no brainer john

Hi sorry to be a pain, but there seem to be a lot of confusing choices of diy dacs out ther (China).
Then theres this one, seems to be the same again but with different caps, do you think the sound will be the same? This one is local

In your kits were the tiny legged chips soldered on already?

That one has the AK4393 DAC chip, like my one. Some say the AK4396 is fractionally better, others can't tell the difference.

My one came as a kit, with all the bits in a bag, but the SM parts were already soldered on.

Some kits do come with different coloured caps.
