Default wad 6550 hot mains transformer

Hi all Last night I had my amp running for about five hours and the mains transformer was to hot to touch . I have never noticed this before is this normal

I have mine on an intermediate shelf on my rack which has glass shelves. I keep worrying that it will melt the shelf above as it gets very hot. What a disaster that would be!

Ideally I would put it on the top shelf but that has a turntable on it.

Errr. Generally the melting point of glass is 1200ºC and up. I doubt if the temperature of the 6550C power transformer cover reaches 60ºC. With modern insulating materials core temperatures can easily be 150ºC so nothing to worry about.
A little sense is required here!
