Solid State
This may say more about me than about SS / valve amplifiers but ...
The one thing about solid states aka, for example, Quad 303 extensively modded but nevertheless, solid silicon is that ..... I can leave the b@##]r on all night and day and not worry about things wearing out. I just don't care! It sounds good, until I switch on peanut 1 watter, loftin white or supreme Ongaku. But not caring what happens to the 'thing' means peace of mind, and if I neevr switched on a valve amp, so didn't know what the TRUTH sounds like, I'd still be happy in a mid seventies state blah blah blah. OTOH push pull valve sounds as dull as only the best SS can. Take your Krell, ATC or ... and you mayaswell have a valve push pull. It is cheaper. With valve SE, then you are on the road to nirvana, but I still worry about how much those GE211s cost. Karma or what! |
