Discoloured coupling caps
Folks
As it says in the subject... I have 4 Dynamicaps in my amp as coupling caps (.22uF) plus 2 more in some other part of the circuit rated at .47uF. These caps are red and are cylindrical in shape. The ends used to be chrome but are now about 75% rusty coloured. Is this a problem or a sign of a potential problem to come? Should I be replacing these caps? I'm not having any problems with the amp, I just opened it today to take a look inside because I haven't opened it for ages now and just wanted to check things over. Thanks for any advice Brian |

Re: Discoloured coupling caps
Folks
I had a reply to an email I sent to Parts Connexion (I bought the caps from them) in which Chris tells me this is superficial and is not a problem. This thread could be closed or deleted now. Brian |

Re: Discoloured coupling caps
Hi Brian,
Just to confirm, Dynamicaps have silver plated copper lead outs. These will dull and corrode with age and a bit of heat can also influence which no doubt is why you find this appearance. Nothing is wrong and remember, even silver oxide conducts better than copper. Best wishes, Greg |
