Re: BT Broadband
Hi all....
I have had cable broadband for a good while now. It's fiber optic right into the box in the street. Much better than the BT or Sky service. The next step is called fibercity Dundee. It will run fiber right into my house with a starting speed of 100Mbit. Cant be bad. Here is my current speed from Colins checker.... Download speed 14372 Kbps Upload speed 435 Kbps It actually runs at 20Mb and some times it comes back with 60 - 70Mb speeds from an unrestricted GIGAbit server I use. www.speedtest.net Result tonight 24Mbps Download 0.48 upload but has been faster Most nights it sits at about 20Mbps, which is what I pay for anyway, so I am a happy bunny..... 100Mb per second would mean I could download a movie in DVD quality (4Gb) in about 10 minutes...... OR Blueray (20Gb) in about 40 min...... BRING IT ON I SAY......

I doubt I will even see fiber optics for a long time to come being stuck right in the middle between Aberdeen and stonehaven in a village with a population of just around 3500

I find it quite sad that if we lived in France or even the Ukraine, we would already have access to 100Mb service. Everywhere, from the smallest village to the largest city. Oh well, that's Socialism for you....

Re: BT Broadband
There should be hope, we're in a village of about 8000 and were cabled up by Diamond cable originally about 20 years ago I think. NTL then had it and now Virgin. It was pretty unreliable until about 3 years ago but is good now. I just have the slowest and cheapest service they can offer me but it's still pretty good and very cheap with webspace etc thrown in.
Second graphic is a quick check and puts things in perspective with the old days of 28k and getting dropped regularly , how long ago was that, 10 or 12 years maybe, I'd say it will get better in most places in a few more years, http://speedcheck.ispconnect.co.uk/ |
