Default Cartridges

It does seem strange to me, that for a forum that has an overwhelming bias towards vinyl, we have very little input on cartridges.

All we ever seem to hear about is Ortofon and Pickering.

I think it would be very useful if vinylheads posted what cartridges they use/have used and what they think of them. It is also important that we know what arm they use and the ancillaries as well, since these will all have a part in the overall sound.

Looking at many threads on the Vinyl Engine ( a great site BTW) it is possible to transform a cheap cartridge if the stylus/cantilever is changed.

Does anyone have a Shelter 501/901. What about Clearaudio and their huge range.

As in all things, there is the 'lemming mentality' and in the process a lot of very good makes can get left behind, since so many fall for 'marketing hype'.

i'd be interested to hear too. one of my considerations is that people other than myself will be using it so i don't want to go too expensive as it could get damaged
currently i use a pickering and as i havn't used much else would like to know how its sound contributes to what i am getting from my system

Hi Stuart-you speak for yourself !

Of all the components we use i would think the humble cartridge is the most likely one to be purchased on the recommendation of another, due to the difficulty, and expense of auditioning at home.

What is YOUR input on cartridges then ?

as a matter of interest, Lemmings don't migrate and jump over cliffs en masse,
it is a myth started by Walt Disney in one of his 50s wild life films,

Hi-it's those new anti-aging & rejuvenating pills i have started taking to attract the "ladies"(not like in Little Britain !).

I have rang the manufacturers and complained that they have made me look like Noddy !!

ps-why on dating sites,do so many women of 50 + say "young outlook, not ready for pipe and slippers yet !"

Whats wrong with slippers ?
