It looks great and I`d like to have a go at making one.

Re: Is this a WD project?
Here's a link to David's project, not a WD kit.
http://www.wduk.worldomain.net/forum...hlight=CDPro2M I notice David's link to Nico's site doesn't work, try this. http://www.diy-high-end.com/

Re: Is this a WD project?
Thanks for the quick replies, my apologies for not searching for it, as a longterm user of other forums I really should know better.
That looks the way to go altho I think maybe I`ll squeeze the mech into an existing unit first.

Re: Is this a WD project?
I believe Tony Moore here also built one of these? He may be able to help.

Re: Is this a WD project?
Though I believe he's now gone down the route of a squeezebox with a good DAC coz it sounds better!

Re: Is this a WD project?
as far as I know I think Tony's still happy with his CDPro2M,
certainly for the money involved you won't get a better CDP,

Though I guess he'll be too engrossed in his newly built original wad 300b pp to comment anytime soon!

Re: Is this a WD project?
Ooh! Sorry, I missed this thread until this morning!
Actually, I've not used my CDpro2 since moving onto the SqueezeBox. I have never tried the internal DAC of the CDPro2, I've only ever used it through my Pedja Rogic 1541A DAC. Using the S/Pdif connection via Tent Link (XO and XO-DAC) I can't tell a big difference between the CDPro2 and the SqueezeBox as a transport. (Although I'd have to say CDPro2 probably still has the edge for some reason - possibly the power supplies, SB has internal switcher for the 3.3v) What _is_ different is when I tried the CDPro2 to the 1541 using the I2S connection. That was far better than S/PDif. Unfortunately I'd already built a case for the CDpro that restricted what I could do with I2S. (wire runs need to be short and I couldn't fit the DAC into the CDPro case) At this time the SqueezeBox can't drive the correct I2S for connection to TDA1541/43 so it's back to s/pdif for me. I use the SqueezeBox mostly now because it's so much more convenient. In the future if I can interface SB3 via I2S then I'll give that a go. In the meantime I may just revisit CDpro2 with I2S (lashup) and do another comparison with the SB3 on s/pdif. You've got me thinking! Cheers, Tony |
