Re: Les Paul
In my top 5 all time fave albums is Chester and Lester, feturing Les Paul and Chet Atkins. I'm a big Chet fan and I read somewhere that Les was intimidated by Chet because he felt that Chet could do everything that he could but not the other way round. When I listened to this album at first I agreed but the more I listened the more I enjoyed Les' off the wall playing, so immediate. As soon as he felt it he played it, no second guessing. Fact is Chet couldn't do this. His mind didn't work that way, his fingers could but his mind wouldn't let them. Also Les had a purity of tone in his bends I haven't heard equalled.
As an aside when I opened this cd I played it in the mini system in the kitchen. I hated it. Once played on the proper system I couldn't turn it off for a week!
This album has been rereleased on CD under the American Milestones collection and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a nice bit of lead playing. Think I'll just put it on..............
