Default Affordable WD monoblocks?

Anyone up for that? Something for those of us who can't afford 300Bs. Personally, I'd fancy them with EL84s -I love that tube. Or possibly even the KT66. Even the EL34 or 2A3 at a pinch, provided it's implemented properly.

Hi-should we be using the words "monoblock" and "affordable" in the same sentance ?
surely having two separate power supplies and chassis is a luxuary when finances are tight.
and then we have the option of something like a Mullard 5-10 or 5-20 which are very well documented in "tube circuits for audio amplifiers".
if i was after a 300b s/e amp and couldn't afford it i would consider a EL34 s/e like "Rocky",now in mk3 version and according to some an excellent performer.

I'm all for monoblocs, but as Philip rightly points out ...afordable and monobloc don't go together!

I'd like a 6550/EL34/KT88. Basically able to switch valves without too much problem (change cathode resistor only) bit like the old WAD 6550.
40-60watts would be nice, or bridgeable.

Why not just sell the transformers, pcb and instructions/parts list if required...that way they can be built over time. A lot of us might have components already, you can change quality etc etc. The cases/boxes/chasis can be built or bought...saving quite a bit.
Just IMHO..

Regards

There must be an echo here! Thanks Gerry, at least there are two of us. But do we really need all that output? Perhaps keeping it Class A only would be sufficient.

Richard.
