Re: Higher Power Single-ended Valve Amp
At the end of the day, even in A2 it all comes down to voltage. I did some quick numbers for a GM70 (as I had the curves to hand)
7K transformer 500v @70ma 3w 750v @100ma 7w 1000v @110ma 18w not that accurate but it gives a idea of the importance of the B+.

Re: Higher Power Single-ended Valve Amp
Thanks to NickG for clearly showing the impact on Watts that HT has.
I have voted YES, but I would be extraordinarily cautious. I know that the 'old hands' don't like people complaining about voltage, but they are the chaps who are already experienced and confident around such volt levels. Someone once said (referencing the dangers of HT) that "you can get killed crossing the road". I'd compare the differences in low and high HT to the differences in crossing that road in front of a moped or in front of a bus. One will push you a lot harder! |

Re: Higher Power Single-ended Valve Amp
I only meant on the 300b pp thread don't complain about the voltages.
I think a kit gm70 845 or 211 amp is lunacy. I voted no voltages too dangerous. |

Re: Higher Power Single-ended Valve Amp
Agree with Paul, no kit supplier is ever likely to provide any amp with such high voltages. I would be more interested in something a bit lighter - I've already built a 1000V amp and although I now have the sound as good as 300B's PSE, it's just too damned heavy to move around. I feel its a macho thing and now I've done it I can sit back and relax secure in the knowledge that my male ego has been satisfied.
PS. looking at Nuvistors at the moment. |

Re: Higher Power Single-ended Valve Amp
I bet mine's heavier than yours. We are lunatics though, no way it should be allowed.
