Thanks all for your comments and help - have fitted the wirewounds (1.5K) and the amp is working fine now, all voltages close to spec and sounding very good indeed. The cathode caps are not paper type they are the ansar (bypassed) as in the upgrade article in HFW. As one of my friends now owns this amp will talk to him to see if he wants these changed.
It is nice to listen to this amp again in my system, it still sounds very good but quite different to my 4W loftin white. Julian
