London & SE tweakers group?
Hi all
a number of related points leading to a conclusion: 1. having spent time re-reading old WAD and recent WD threads it's clear that in various geographical locations there are highly skilled, adventurous, and theoretically sussed tweakers and buildrs. I'm thinking of the likes of Paul B, Greg, Clive, Stuart, Andrew, Neal, Dr John and others; 2. Then there are those, like me, who have a sense of adventure but are constrained by skill and theory deficiences. They may also be constrained by the fact of never having heard a 211, Lenco, IPLs, statics, etc. So they tweak what they have rather than taking a giant step forward. I'd like to experiment more, and therefore offer more to the BB, but am rather tentative due to these deficiencies. People like me are rather parasitic on the knowledge of those named above; 3. Ergo, if we learn best by doing, and if doing is best done when we draw confidence from a collective, regular real-life (as opposed to on-line) meetings of local BBers may be of interest. To supplement the less frequent Eggfests, phono-shoot-outs, etc. So, are there an BBers in London and the SE who would like to meet up on a semi-regular basis to swap tweaks, compare kit and components, etc?? My kit, if anyone's interested is: Garrard 401 in mammoth concrete plinth, with OL Rega 250, Dynavector DV20X-L WAD PSU, Phono II, PAS, all highly modded (with more on the way), eg Jupiters, silver wired, psedo-shunt with Vishays, etc Pioneer DV575, modded with ELNA Cerafines Leak Troughline Stereo Couple of Nakamichis - 480 & 600 WAD KEL84, heavily modded (Jensen & AN PIOs, BGs, silver micas, etc) Dave Berriman DBS7 (Hi-Fi News & RR kit in late-90s, modded with new caps, Mills resistors, Alpha-Core foil inductors) TNT CAT-5 spkr cables and loads of home-brew i/cs, including CVH. Re: London & SE tweakers group?
Great idea Adrian,
I was going to post that Eggfest is great for meeting but for listening tests - far better in real homes. If I was living in the UK I would whole heartedly support this motion. Re. your deck, did you see my post about aercrete blocks - the material will only cost a couple of quid or if your lucky nothing at all. Black Stuart |

Re: London & SE tweakers group?
Hi Stuart
no, didn't see that post - but I have loads of concrete already. Moved house in October and still seeing the osteopath! Not a great enough idea to get you back to Britain I take it. Rob doing well in the sense of having acquired the right basic kit, but not necessarily getting the best out of it. I'm in N16, next to Clissold Park. Have wheels though & I'd be willing to travel or host. Adrian |

Re: London & SE tweakers group?
Hi All,
This sounds like a good idea, I've tried some of the more basic tweaks listed on the old BB, and so far I like the sound I'm getting from my kit, doesn't mean it can't be improved though! I'm sure listening to other equipment and actually seeing what's been tweaked rather than reading about it, can only be a good thing! Mike. |
