Hi Peter,

You mention the Mission 780. Is that the speaker that was around in the early 90s with the 5" paper bass driver and vifa tweeter or the much more recent version?

The old 780s were superb little speakers, as were the 760s.

Did you also design the SCM50?
I had a pair donate to me recently after the matching Denon electronics expired and I use them to test new builds/mods before connecting my usual speakers.

No, the new 780 with Keraform driver and Audax treble unit circa 2000 - 2003.

The SCM50 is the speaker referred to in the above posts. The mechanical and electrical design was worked on extensively to make them sound far better than their price would indicate.

That's good to know, perhaps I'll give them a proper listen in the main system and stop abusing them!

BTW Peter I still have very, very fond memories of the original HB2 which I had as a teenager. They were a revelation at the time and if I saw a nice pair for sale today I'd snap them up to replace the current Linn Kans on the TV system.

Thanks. It is unlikely you'll see HB2s now as the bass drivers were easily blown up by amplifiers driven into distortion (NAD 3020 was the main culprit) and cannot be replaced.

I do have a design from the 60 ies in the shape of a miniature karlson
just a full range small driver in it , and you can build it from cardboard...
maybe worth a try ?

I do have the large karlson enclosures and they really sound nice

only need experimenting with some full range drivers like philips 9710m or 5200m full range

in th esmall version maybe a bose driver with some electronic eq will be practical

How do you rate those Keraform drivers (78 series) as opposed to the Aerogel drivers (75 series), Peter? I have heard they are more fragile. Also, talking about new loudspeaker projects, how about something wall mounted like PMC wafer speakers. Definite WAF!
