Peter, why are spammers now targeting forums? for what purposes?

fwiw, I think spammers are one of the great menaces of the web, and somehow should be eradicated totally.

Judging by the comments by other forum administrators it appears as though there is concerted attempt to place ads for mobile phones, viagra and pornography on as many forums as possible.

We've been hit once but have now, successfully, put a stop to it (so far).

I don't post often on here, although I do read fairly regularly. I was affected by this and was initially rather annoyed. However having read this thread I now completely agree with the policy and apologise for not keeping my profile up to date and therefore causing extra work for the administrators.
