Default VoFos v Fostex 208 cabs

I think Ed's thread on his VoFos must have been lost recently. I recall Scott saying that his cabs were very good for the Fostex 206s I have kying around waiting for a cab. Meanwhile I've been in touch with Simon2a3 who thought his Fostex 208 Cabs were better - the VoFos being a bit harsh in the top end. The amount of wood involved, and the complexity of the 2 plans, are such that I only want to build one pair of cabs. So I'd appreciate further comments if possible.

Cheers

Adrian

Hi Adrian-i now have Eds original VoFos and i am VERY pleased with them.

I dont use the baffle step correction units as i found the bass too much in my living room, although they seemed OK at Withamfest (and Egg4) with them fitted.

If VoFos Mk 2 are an improvement (Ed says they are) then they must be superb.

I will say that the Fostex cabinet for the 206 (as made by Wilmslow Audio) sounds good to me as well and i only changed mine (still got them ) because of the size (i wanted taller but narrower).

Thanks Philip, could you give a sense of the differences between them?

Hi-i am very poor at describing sound differences !

I could live with either design sound wise, but prefer the VoFos on aesthetics.

I would consider selling my Wilmslow Audio cabinets without the drive units and would offer you the chance to listen to both versions in my living room if you wish to hear for yourself the sound, and how it differs.

I have several amps,or you are welcome to bring your own.

I am about 25 miles from the M11 Stansted junction on the Essex/Suffolk boundary not far from Clare.

Just edited this, having taken you up on your kind offer. But I then noted that you have the 206 cab & I was after the 208 cab, with a view to possibly upgrading (?) to a 208 driver later. Thanks anyway. Having said all that I could possibly make a detour on Sunday ebveening as I come down the M11. I'll ponder that one

Best

Hi Adrian-i am racing the KTM on Sunday and i'm not sure what time i will be home.

If your coming down the M11 its quicker to turn off at Duxford, and head towards Haverhill (A505-A1017)

KEL84 + WAD Pre/Phono/PSU. all heavily modded. Can't bring these as the car will be full for the week-end, but if I get over to you I'll be able to evaluate the differences between the speakers I guess

Thanks

Adrian
