new products looking good....
just a note to peter, really, been reading the hifi worlds
its nice to see the weak areas previously, getting done properly.... pre3 looks better with the higher ratio transformers, presumable as the lower ones are prone to hum more, not sure why myself. phono3, not much changed, but what has is very worthwhile, the cutter mod, proper decoupling, and bass rollof. and input swithcing with relays, pcb eyes double plated great to see, wad as it should have been...keep it up, articles are good.... can we ask what else is in plans? ampswise.... any 3 way speakers, too? just one, perhaps hiper critical point...looking at the front photos, some of the front plates have rounded edges and some square, for total uniformity it would be good to have all the same. and never ever be tempted to go for the zinc capped transformers, even if its cheaper, the chromed are far far nicer, or the rats tail nasty input wiring, or cheap phono sockets, these things make a big difference in pride of ownership. perhaps even a stainless or copper chassis as an upgrade? thanks |

Re: new products looking good....
Im tempted by the phono 3 but id only need the mm version at present, however i might change to a mc cartridge sometime later and im wondering if WD would make the stepup TX's required available as an upgrade. At present im quite happy with a GR1042 but that probably wont be forever.

Re: new products looking good....
Does anyone know if the design articles for the new phono and psu kits will be available online, or at least some measurements/tech specs/circuit diagrams? I have phono/psu kits on order and something to read while I wait would be nice=)

Re: new products looking good....
First, thanks to Ianm2 for the compliments - we do try harder!
The cases are aluminium which is the optimum between performance and cost. Copper would improve things slightly but at a huge increase in cost. I would be interested in doing a really 'high end' design using copper one day, but not whilst we are finding our feet. Our new MC step up transformers will be put in the catalogue as soon as they are available - we are awaiting delivery shortly. Finally we cannot, in all justice to the publisher, make the articles available on-line while HFW is still publishing the series. They will be available after the next issue appears, however. |
