Default Valve Testing

I don't normally do it but I decided to bid with a tube seller that had no way of testing what he was selling, yes I might turn out to have been a real smuck but it looked like there would be few bidders for what he was selling.

Do Ebay make mistakes with bidding amounts because I could swear I di'nt put in a high maximum on one lot. Anyway I won 3 auctions, trouble is I have no way of testing the valves, which are 1 x 6SL7/gty / 4 x Mullard ECC81 / 4 x Brimar ECC81. I actually only wanted the 6SL7/gty and a RCA grey glass 6SN7/VT-231 which I missed because I went in too low.

So, is there anyone with a valve tester who could test these valves for me, as I can get them sent to a UK address and would of course pay for any expenses including postage to Spain.

Hi Stuart

Yes I'll do them for you if you pm me for address etc.

Re. bidding amounts, did you put in a bid including pence? I used to do that but once entered the numbers without the decimal point, must have not hit the key hard enough. My max bid was then a 5 figure amount in £s Needless to say I won that auction and now only bid in full pounds.

I've done something similar. I work at lot with countries that use a comma in place of the decimal point. I used a comma on an ebay bid and ended up with a huge max bid. Stuart, maybe you did that as you are in Spain and probably use commas automatically?

Cheers,

Clive

Richard,Clive,
It's quite unnerving you see it come up and think - if someone wants to be nasty - it could cost you a fortune

The items were on Ebay/UK and whenever I have put in a bid using a decimal point, Ebay flags me for it, so I have to use a comma.

From what Clive is saying there seems to be different systems for dfferent countries.

Thank you very much Richard, I will pm you.

As a footnote - I cannot blame anybody but myself for not buying more NOS valves years ago. With very few exceptions, the new stuff just cannot compete and prices will only go higher and higher especially for signal valves.
