Are components directional ?
Excuse my gross ignorance but I am having trouble with my first attempt at knocking up a crossover, albeit the simplest in the world ! It´s for a SEAS coaxial driver and I´m only getting sound through the treble horn part. As the bass part of the crossover is more complicated - 2 resistors and a coil - in comparison with the treble part - a capacitor and a resistor - I am wondering if a coil or a resistor can have a correct way round ? If not, I guess there must be something wrong with the driver.
Please be gentle. VantheMan |

Re: Are components directional ?
Nope...both are non directional.
Cheers, Mike.

Re: Are components directional ?
Agree in practice Mike. This won't effect Vantheman's problem but remember that some consider both these components as directional in terms of sound quality.

Re: Are components directional ?
Indeed!...some consider (me too sometimes) just about everything to be directional.
Even which way you place that piece of loose paper in all your books! (Thats one for the Peter Belt fans) All the best, Mike.

Re: Are components directional ?
Hi Phillip,
This is the previous version of the driver I am using but it is in a 1m x 23cm x 23 cm high floorstander made in 18mm MDF in a baffle step arrangement with a square port at the front. A design by a very helpful guy on the Pink Fish Media Forum called Tenson from Tilbury or thereabouts, I think. My problem is now sorted - I had mixed up the tweeter and woofer terminals - after living in Spain for so long you tend to trust your intuition, make the mistake and then read the instructions !!!! The single box I have now connected up sounds quite promising but it´s very early days yet - I haven´t even screwed and glued the box up tight. This SEAS driver is used in the Ascendo C7 speakers apparently but this is much, much simpler. Last edited by VantheMan; 26th July 2007 at 07:06 PM. Reason: Lousy punctuation |
