Monobloc or Multi-channel option for hypex amps
Hello Peter
I know that you are planning to produce amp kits using the Hypex modules. I assume that these will be stereo power or integrated amps. It occurs to me that the Hypex modules would be great candidates for AV - great sound combined with low power consumption. Also to make active or semi-active DIY speakers, or multi-channel amps for use with active cross-overs. So I would like to suggest a Monobloc or multi-channel or modular option for these kits, or at least some sort of flexibility to allow them to be used beyond just a stereo amp. Maybe a monobloc chassis option with side fixings which would allow them to be joined together up to as many channels as desired. And/or plate-amp option to allow them to be built into a speaker. What do others think? Max

The amp's could be built as mono modules so you could use as many as you need for stereo or five to seven multi channel.
I think it is only really worthwhile pursuing with the higher power 400w per channel or 700w units for stereo systems. I have no interest in the lower powered solid state, which is readily available affordably commercially. However the lower power module options would be good for a multi channel amp. Class D design av amp's must have proven troublesome for manufacturers as all the affordable multichannel amp designs remain very bulky class AB units and these ugly behemoths have very low WAF (which seems the single most important factor today)

Has anything developed in terms of a Hypex based WD kit or is it about to?
I'm seriously considering just buying a bunch of bits from Hypex to have a go with these but would hold off If I knew a WD kit with a nice enclosure etc wasn't too far off. Cheers Dave

I'd like to add a vote for the monoblock option as I believe that most RFI from these types of amplifier designs result from the loudspeaker cables acting as transmitter antennae.
Using the Pre3's ability to drive long speaker cable runs via balanced outputs should reduce the effects of this RFI by allowing the monblocks to be placed close to loudspeakers & use of shorter cables to connect to the power amp outputs. Just my tuppence worth Michael
