Why not use a piece of slate, easy enough to drill out for control knobs etc.

I'm lucky I have access to 8 different coloured slates, that is the basic colour is black but they can contain at random - reds/oranges/greens/yellows etc. They are used as decorative wall finishes and are 10mm thick. Of course they have boring black as well.

I would like to make complete chassis from this material but first need to know what adhesive to bond the pieces with, since this is preferable from an aesthetic view point rather than using nuts and bolts. I suppose it will come down to using epoxy resin.

Also as the chassis would be non-metallic, what do I do about earthing.

Hi-you could build your amp on an alloy plate and attach it to the slate base using stand offs and countersunk machine screws from underneath.

That way you can earth the base plate.

I could be tempted by a nice satin finish !
If anyone is tempted to get their panels re-anodised perhaps we could get a better deal for bulk ?

I just came back from the stonemasons and bonding the pieces is no problem at all, the bonding agent is stronger than the stone itself, I actually watched them putting together a marble triple wash basin unit (for a hotel).

If you are going to go to the trouble of making a custom faceplate/case, then seriously consider a nice slab of wood. Tubes and wood panels belong together.

I'd say black gloss - get the same sexy look as the Melody amps. And I agree having the WD logo etched in silver would look cool!

Also think that TX cans would look good rather that the chrome caps...
