Default Hi-Fi World SE Headphone Amp?

Hi All

Has anyone got any info on (or can remember anything about!) the single ended headphone amp as published many moons ago in Hi-Fi World? It was a transistor design, only a handful of parts, possibly part of a "Maximalist Preamp" series of articles?

Cheers

Default Richard Brice's Hi-Fi World SE Headphone Amp!

Aha! Found it!

In August 1994, the DIY Supplement (No.9) included a circuit by Mr Richard Brice for a Class A Headphone Amp using BD135s driven by a couple of TL072s, first postulated in Hi-Fi World April 1994. Later, in Supplement 18 (November 1995), there were a couple of suggestions and modifications to the original design sent in by readers.

Can anyone tell if this is still a good sounding circuit, or if it could be made better by being "brought up to date" (using modern components?)?

Would Mr Brice mind if I posted the articles on HeadWize
http://headwize.com/ubb/forumdisplay.php?fnum=3
to get a broader feedback?

Cheers

Note: the articles are copywrited both by Richard Brice and Hi-Fi World, so republication without the permission of both is not allowed. Both articles are available for viewing in our DIY Archive

As to whether it sounds good I've never heard one - but it doesn't use valves (unlike our own WDHD3S)!
