I totally agree, I find polyprops rather characterful.
In particular I did not like Sonicaps (very zingy upper mids) and the ICW Audio ones from Maplin sound fat and coloured.

The best value ones I have found are Wilmslow Supersound, these sound pretty even handed to me.

I won't be trying the new Clarity MR (MaxRip-off), I don't care how good they are.

I tried external crossovers and could hear no difference, so my XOs are inside the speaks. I also tried Noel's recommendation of putting the XO near the amp and biwiring - sounds slightly different but not any better IMHO..

Definitely a bit of a bargain. Mine are years old, but have aquitted themselves well in quite a few different projects now.

I suppose those prices are comparable with what was being charged for paper in oils a few years ago. The price may be set by that seller also with the new product, we don't know what they'd be from someone over here such as WD.

I was looking for a pair of 0.47uF caps so was following this thread with interest having included Clarity/Soniqs types in my shortlist. Having gone to the Wilmslow Audio site, I see their's only start at 0.68uF. Would this make a noticeable/audible difference?

Were they Ansar Supersounds, black sleeved?

Not usually much for coupling, a slightly lower frequency will be coupled, possible risk of lf instability. Peter, WD, does .47uF 630v Soniqs Clarity caps in the SAX range, http://wduk.worldomain.net/acatalog/...apacitors.html

I think they must be Solen/SCR, because they have SCR written on them.
Don't have any Ansar Supersounds, but the one pictured sounds very good indeed, in both digital and analogue coupling apps.

Ah, ok Al, I just remembered Ansar also used the supersound name. I have some of those black ones like yours, tried them for coupling in Kit88 a while ago, light and airy sounding, didn't suit then but a useful flavouring sometimes no doubt
