Default Dab on 1.2GHZ in 2007

Hi All

Has anyone got any information on this new L band Dab on 1.2 GHZ which as been reported to commence in 2007. I am led to believe that the L band will be for high quality Dab stations only with a much better bit rate than our present Dab system.

Hmph. I wouldn't count on it, profits come before quality remember. I can see the same 342 identikit pop stations squeezing out bandwidth that should be going to stations of the quality of Radio 3.

In answer to your question, no I don't. The above assumption is, I admit, overly cynical, but DAB ended up being a massive retrograde step from analogue FM, despite the great white hope of it being an improvement. My prediction is that FM will not be switched off anytime in the near future, standard TV's can be converted to DTV easily enough now with a Freeview box, the same cannot be said for all the radios out there. Politically, it can't be done. And DAB radios eat batteries - how is this an improvement??

Having optimised my amp and speakers, I can now hear digital artifacts within Radio 3 at 192kbps. The only reason I'm using DAB is because the Troughline is unusable with an indoor aerial in this particular property. I think I'm going to approach the landlord about getting a great big 5-element FM aerial put on the roof.

There’s a bit over on the digitalspy forum about this, I am not convinced anything is set in stone about any of this, currently as far as I can see about 3 times the capacity and being trilled.
