VALVO 807s

Just won a pair of VALVO 807s anyone know anything about them and the valvo name can’t say I have ever heard o f valvo

807s like 6L6s oooo and any other valve are great if you can get them cheap.

e.g. 807s are transmitter indirectly heated pentodes or at least er whatever the americans called their 'equivalents'... beam tetrode; of which there are dozens and dozens They should be cheap as chips and as such are great. There are many which are roughly equivalent and they may soudn quite different so you are left with what you like.

At the end of the day, unless you are willing to spend lots and lots on quality metal and know what you are doing you will never get more than cheap and cheerful and dead loud out of these sort of valves.

Quality comes with a price.

Just because you get some achingly old NOS quality valves from proxima centauri doesn't mean you will get a sweet and superb sounding amplifier.

I don’t quiet follow your logic you say valves are great if you can get them cheap. Then you say you have to spend lots for quality metal I disagree with that and my post was only inquiring what the 807 was like for its sound and name who were VALVO

Well my Valvo 807s arrived safely today they look like nos stock and are Jan Black plates by the looks of them anyone got a good 807 schematics with HT of about 300/350 volts

He's got a PP circuit, ht 365V and a SE, ht a rather high 450V.

I remember the 807.

Before the widespread adoption of JNT's (does anybody know what the initials stand for?) push-pull circuit, 8 watts was about as much as could be hoped for from the usual single-ended amplifier of the day but using these transmitter valves could really liven things up. It was accepted that they were not hi-fi but they were loud enough (just!) for Bill Haley and, most satisfyingly, they were indeed cheap as boxes of the things could be found in any of the sales of war surplus stuff which abounded in the early 'fifties. I bought a pair of American ZC1 transmitters for 10/- and I think these had the 807 at the back end.

I think there were several schemes using the 807 shown in the RCA Valve Handbook of 1953 . . . . . Where's it all gone?
