Re: Glasshouse amp diodes.
I spent most of the evening playing LP after LP.
My comment above about "sweeter" was wrong; I just happened to play a warm sweet recording, then followed by a brighter one, a harsher one, a compressed one and then several fab ones=) They just let more out... I know it's a cliche, but they really do remove veils=) I really like these z-foils, they just seem so open and transparent compared to any other resistor I've tried. I s'pose you could rightly say "So they should, they cost a small fortune" and you'd be correct, but in my humble opinion if you want clarity above all else then I haven't heard anything better. For the record, I swapped R15/16/35/36 all 1k, and R13/14 47k. Phono3 (non S). Most of them were already AN tants, and I think they make the tants sound coloured metalic and shouty. I wish they made these in all the values for the filter section etc. too, but I understand that Texas make z-foils too, and will make them to your requirements. Might be worth checking up on, or indeed asking hfc or charcroft. Next stop: R5/15 in my pre3, but not today... I've got a pile of records that need to be played=) |
