Amplifier dead
hope someone can help, i have an icon stereo 25 integrated valve amp, playing tunes merrily this afternoon, couple of popping noises from the speakers when playing and then the amp went dead. I have done all the stupid stuff like switching it off checking and replacing internal fuses, nothing, changed fuse in power cable, still nothing, even removed the mains cable completely from my main conditioner and plugged it into another socket (all other components are working, but i did it anyway) amp is completely dead, no power light, nothing.
Anyone have any suggestions |

Re: Amplifier dead
Have you got a multi meter, and if so would you be comfortable in poking around inside ?

Re: Amplifier dead
....and, going on from what Phil has said, you'll probably need to be looking at the power supply section of the circuit.

Re: Amplifier dead
i dont have a multimeter but i can get one, need one anyway, got a loan of one from a friend when i put new valves in the amp, but to be honest im not on for mucking about with innerards, i assume you think the power supply has gone, is this just bad luck as the amps only slightly over a year old!
However needs must and all that, so what am i looking for/doing?. |

Re: Amplifier dead
If it's only a bit over a year old I think Icon would happily fix it for free under warranty, but if you start poking about yourself they may well decline.
I'd just send it to them. Hal55 |

Re: Amplifier dead
Could be the soft start thermister, a small disc (more than likely black) next to the mains input, had one fail on one of my MB90's, if still under waranty though, leave it to Icon Audio. BOB

Gents, thanks to all for there input, amp has now been fixed under/slightly outwith the warranty.
Bob top off the class for you, nailed the fault, only wish i was handy with a soldering iron and i could have done this myself!. |

Maybe I will take @bob orbell's advice and take some time to practice, shouldn't tell the missus about the "becoming addicted" part though |
