Default KT88 on auction site

well chaps,

I have just watched a WD KT88 single input amp fail to reach its reserve price of £750. The seller claimed it was a ready built version, in which case I would have thought it was a bargain as at least you could be certain of it being constructed to a good standard. A KT88 amp fpr the price of the EL84 kit? Wish I'd put a daft bid in now at the least I could have had some fun bi amping!

Andy.

Makes me think, when I see Quad II's go for £1000+ a pair, and Leak stereo20's for similar amounts. They are both great amps but the WD88 I think has the edge for sure. I admit that I think my rebuilt Stereo20 is nicer than the WD KEL84 once I increased the reservoir caps after the smoothing resistor, but there's not a great lot in it.

Where was that amp Andy? I had a look on eBay finished items but couldn't see it.

Thats the link to the relisted unit.

I don't have the funds unfortunately or I'd have had a go at it last time out.

Got to be a bargain for someone?

Might help people find it if the seller had put KT88 in the title!

Who's going to be searching for a "World Design Valve Amp"? Almost nobody.

That should keep the price down! Expect it to go for £700 or to remain without a bid.

Not alot of effort has gone into the advert. Questions to seller are needed to clarify exactly which kit this is. If it is the current £1500 version (is that right?) £700 is a good deal as Andy suggests.

It's still there, with an hour to go.

It looks like a 2008 build from the original WD stable in Huntingdon.

I dunno if its the full fat XL build but the seller claims its got "Sonic Q" capacitors (sic) I assume he means Soniqs polyprops. the Kt88's have been replaced with JJ's, unless by 2008 they'd stopped supplying it with Svet's.

If its a genuine "factory" build I can't imagine much being wrong with it.

Anyone fancy a punt? I wish I had £700 going spare right now.

Andy.

Well some lucky person got it for £700, only 1 bidder.

I wonder was it someone in here?

A superb amp at a bargain price.

Andy.

Hmmm, personally I'd take a rain check on that. If John Caswell put it together it is a certain bargain.
