Re: 50 Watt amplifier
Usual Black Stuart!
I cut my teeth on valves in 1950 ish and still prefer them to semiconductors for audio applications. The exceptions being a good FM tuner, possibly a reel to reel and cassette, although I have examples of both (Leak Troughline, Magnum Dynalab MD100, Yamaha CT7000, Revox B260, Revox G36, Revox B77MkII, Tandberg TD20A, Tandberg TCD310 (Must get rid of some of these!) Yes I have heard many good hybrids, Unison and Pathos (especially the TT, Inpol2 and the Inpower) and Pathos use an SMPS for the Inpol2!!!!! yuk, being the main culprits, but still don't like them, flirted with a Pass Aleph 30, nice but not for me. As for the comment "how many Mullards go microphonic" I think I will just ignore that. Once again this thread is drifting away from the subject so shall we try to keep these types of comments in the Coffee Shop. John Last edited by John Caswell; 10th May 2013 at 08:47 AM.
