OK, capacitors arrived this morning, and the new scope, got to get acquainted with it first, anyhow, fitted the two new capacitors, (thank's Matthew, you will get your payment this evening, sorry forgot last night), amp has now been on and playing for six hours, so far so good, but what was wrong with one of the capacitors?, all voltages were fine, can someone tell me why, anyhow I am happy again . Hi Bob,
I suspect they/it decided to go leaky, not common but i have had it happen over the years.

Good to hear your amp is up and running again BOB
It never rains by it pours well up here anyway I have had to change my speaker back to my Stand mount MS 812s still good sounding but not like my frugal horns with their bass helpers
The Bass drivers foam surrounds have perished they were only an old pair of Sony APM 10 square cone jobs but worked well together with the full range frugal horn
They say it happens in threes so what is next

Thank's John, but does the signal reach this capacitor?. Is it in the path of return?.

Perhaps because it's a reservoir capacitor.

If it's failing then it can't deliver the current to get over the next half Cycle, the Ht voltage drops and the amp goes out of spec?
Or it can't deliver a short burst of energy on transients, thus dulling the sound.

Or I have completely misunderstood the purpose of reservoir capacitors, which is quite possible!

Andy.
