Vinyl sales at 10 year high

Stuart, David, I am not that good on a PC, Janet set it up for me so I don,t know what res. I am getting , however I burn onto a CD and the sound on playing through my system (musical fidelity x ray , pre 3 converted to CF, wa88 and wharfdale denton 80th anniversary is very very close to CD but not as good as vinyl. I and others who listen to the downloads all agree that they are good. The price also is a factor, I will try and find out more details latter. BOB

Bob, you are still faced with fact that if you tire of the piece you cannot sell it on.

I realise that I was lucky to live in a town famous for it's live music and where people avidly bought vinyl but then got conned with 'perfect' CD sound and so sold their collections.

The most I ever paid for excellent s/hand vinyl was £2 and that includes a perfect boxed copy of La Boheme/Pavarotti - how much would a high res download cost of that and where would be the excellent full size liner notes.

If you are young and no longer have the opportunity to take advantage of other peoples stupidity in the 80's and 90's then downloading is the only viable route to go.

Years ago I bought an audiophile copy of the Singaporean singer Jacintha - Tribute to Ben Webster - I have yet to hear quality that matches this LP - absolutely stunning, I'll put this up against any format anytime.

I personally only buy downloads where a physical release is simply not currently available, or where an original is deleted and price is too high and the available download is the only realistically priced option. I almost feel like i've been robbed when buying a download as it's weighs nothing and is invisble except in a computer folder!
I too, like to browse a colour sleeve/booklet and have a physical item for my money... downloaded accompanying artwork just isn't the same somehow!

I agree. Whenever I have bought from iTunes before, it always feels very odd paying 7 pounds or whatever it is, and then just seeing these things appear in your library... and you're like: is that it?

For me, I don't really by much music at all these days. Instead I just rely on Spotify (which I have an account with), youtube and soundcloud (which I believe is about to start charging ...) I do by hard copies when i want to either support a new artist or group, or if there is particulary good looking cover art.

Jumping back to the start of this thread, I think it is a sign that vinyl is doing well when Tesco Direct are selling Nagaoka MP110s !!!!!!!

I'm not joking, have a look. A shame they can't spell magnet though.

I've been building my collection up again over the past couple of years....I really enjoy the tactile nature of it. Love the album artwork too.
