Default Musical Fidelity CD player

Hi all, I have had the above from new, and now the optical output is non operational, there is no light at all from the transmitter, the transmitter is a plastic housing with legs soldered to the PCB, is it worth getting a new one?, or would the problem be more dramatic. Thanks. BOB

Hi Bob,
Are you getting the coax output? Check that you are getting +5V on at least one of the optical block pins and that one of them is at earth potential, as normally the coax and optical outputs are wired in parallel.

John

Hi John, I have got the results of your asking, pin 1 earth and 0 ohms to all other ground points, pin 2, +5 volts DC, pin 3, +5 volts DC, pin 4, 2.5 volts DC, the plastic housing is a little wobbly, but the solder connections to the PCB are good. BOB

An update on the optical transmitter, after all appeared to be correct with John's test's, I desoldered the pins to remove the transmitter and one of the pins came out with the solder sucker, clearly this must be the problem, a new part has been sourced from Musical Fidelity and should be here soon, I will report later.
