Default WAD 300b Parallel Single Ended

Does anyone know if WAD ever made one of these?

Yes, they made them as monobloks. A few months later they brought out a push pull version.

The one I've been sent a photo of is a stereo, similar to the 300b push pull stereo. I think it must be the 2A3 PSE, with 300bs in place of 2A3s. Were 300bs drop in replacements on this amp? 2A3?.jpg

That is the 2A3PSE kit. Input valves are 6SN7. 2A3 heater voltage 2.5v, 300B heater voltage 5v, so not drop in replacement.

Ive vague memories of someone performing such a mod many moons ago.

Indeed, Ali. You of course, I hope, will have disregarded my Micky take of you about this amp several years ago at Owston. It was just a bit of fun, honest!
I do however hold reservations over the later PP version. I think the same mains Tx’s as used in the PSE mono’s was used and that was a bit of a compromise that impinged on good sound quality. A bit of a shame really but was probably an indicator that the golden years of WAD was starting into decline.

Lol, all in good fun mate. :-)

I mainly keep my pair for sentimental reasons, they were the first valve amps I ever heard.

Indeed, but I wouldn’t invest in it. The build looks good and completely standard. The gold plated Tx caps and faceplate IMHO look scrappy and I have no doubt these amps have had a period of storage in a damp environment owing to the chassis rust and corrosion on the screw heads. £900? He’s having a laugh. £600 might be more realistic.
