To the OP, it may be worthwhile checking your original transformer mounted on a non-ferrous base and with/without Phils suggestion of compliant grommets under it. If you feel confident enough, try it with and without a load. I would imagine a full load on the 6.3V winding would be sufficient for the purposes of the experiment?
