Hello Phil, for another variation, mine is a shunted Alps blue (Charcroft z foil) and PTFE sleeved silver wire.

Haha yes lead chocolate weights courtesy of Kwikfit! They gave me a box when they had to swap over to non-lead a few years ago

The case is not connected to the signal earth, I connect the earth post on the back, to the earth post on my power amp with an external cable. It seemed like a good idea at the time.

Ah, well my present pre uses a 40mm Alps Black as an active volume control in the feedback loop of a gain stage... (not sure how far that gets me though!) Those Bastinis look amazing btw

Thanks Richard,

Shortly after I built it, Matthew introduced his little PCB for the Alps pot which would have been neater/easier. If I ever build another one I would probably use that instead.

Thanks Richard, they are sounding very good now, having had a bit of measuring and fettling. :-)

Current pre for me is some Tribute AVC's in a nice box made for me by Ant of BTE Designs.
