Seems the mad rush to try and join the forum has abated, for now. Bob

They all Googled "free amplifier"?
In fact they are probably massing outside the Houses of Parliament, with ALF (Amplifier Liberation Front) placards.

Yes it was interesting. On my observation, all registration attempts seemed to be around the same time of day, there were multiple attempts and all the usernames had a similar style in that they started with a conventional first name followed by a group of three or four letters, like they could be initials or something.

What is the purpose?

I remember several years ago on the old forum when Nick Lucas was running it, the forum got hacked and was put out of order for about 24 hrs. At the time it seemed the sole purpose of the hack was to show that it could be hacked

Matthew, is there any way of establishing what is going on when these type of registration attempts are made?

All,

I'm mystified, myself. Along with absolute assurances about safety and security, our friendly server technical support suggested "bored teenagers". My presumption is that the activity is to a large degree automated. I'm unhappy about it, but - so long as they don't gain membership - they can't do any harm.

There were a large number of applications for membership (all denied), but Richard has now foiled them by making the "human verification" question more difficult, and there have been none since. Thank you Richard, this particular not-so-teenager was getting very bored!

I'm looking at options to halt it altogether and will keep you posted.

Matthew
