Default Old WD Phono Relay board Help

HI All
With all this discussion going on with the Phono 3 input capacitance and 3.18uS corrections I went the verify if the new clean board I have was the phono 3 or 3S and it is the 3s.V1.1 that I have so will be following these threads closely before I start to build it to replace my aging phono 2.
However, on finding my Phono 3S board I also came across the Old WD Phono Relay board v2.1 with a pair of relays still in it I think I got this board from wooer. BOB but not so sure of that

BOB can you recall if you had this board or maybe still have the manual on it it’s also had the GD Ground track cut at some point but can be fixed. I am thinking of putting it back in use with the phono 3S build so I can run my Thorn 160 And Rega turntables together without plugging them in and out But before I do this I need the Build manual for the thing if anyone still has it
Thanks
Colin

Hi Colin, your main board is fine and may well be the current issue, it should have the provision for the two low filters C1-2-3-4-5-6, if you don't want the low filters, then use 0.1uF 250 volt in C1-2, leave the others empty, the relay board may have been mine, but don't remember but it is the currant one, I think, if you want a new one they are cheap from Matthew, of course, the relay board was designed to run MM and MC but you can run MM + MM. I only have all paper build sheets, Greg is the man to contact as he has all and can forward them to you via email. How is the physio. going ? Bob

Hi Colin et al,
One of the main advantages of using the newer relay PCB is that as it is "Plated Through Holes" (PTH) you can mount he relays on the opposite side to that shown in the assembly notes to make it easier to remove them for faults and fault finding, and also put them in sockets.
One of a range of amplifiers I repair has the relays soldered to the PCB which takes about and hour to replace both. I fit sockets - result about 10-30 seconds to replace.
I know people are going to reckon that the sockets could be unreliable but ons fitted, and held in with a tyrap the most unreliable thing is the relay.

John

Hi BOB/ALL
Yep, I have the phono 3S v1.1 board but with the phono3 build Manual. Which hasn’t got the WD phono relay wiring instructions in it so will need to get a copy of the correct phono 3S Manual?
And just checking my hard copy of The phono 3 manual and the Front cover has small print on it with a build date for the phono 3S Build 03/2011.?

And the phono 3 manual shows the build with the 3S v 1.1 boards but with the phono3 schematic which just shows as C1/C2 0.1uf only which is what I will be doing anyway
And The PDF version of the phono series 3 manual I have shows the build of the phono 2 issue 2 board and schematics. So cap numbers are wrong to very confusing in a phono3 manual
Ho and my physio.is going fine BOB .got two hands back but still needs a little more work
Colin

Hi BOB/All
OK got the manuals thanks, Richard.
So looking at the relay board I hadn’t realized it switched the cartloads
My thinking was it was just a two-input selector worked the same way as the WD preamp relay input selector board
I think Bob said in his last post that it can be made to switch two MM carts But if not it’s no big deal I only thought about using it as I have the thing so may as well use it
PS I also see that RS has discontinued the relays’ now

No you are wrong Colin, it does just switch inputs, it has positions to fit extra capacitors for loading and resistance loading for MM, the other tab pins are for the SUT;s with positions for MC loading, I am sure you will sort it to do what you want with two MM cartridges, just post if you need help. I do like John's suggestion of relay sockets, now why did I not think of that. Bob
