wad 6550 hot mains transformer

Hi all Last night I had my amp running for about five hours and the mains transformer was to hot to touch . I have never noticed this before is this normal

I have mine on an intermediate shelf on my rack which has glass shelves. I keep worrying that it will melt the shelf above as it gets very hot. What a disaster that would be!

Ideally I would put it on the top shelf but that has a turntable on it.

Errr. Generally the melting point of glass is 1200ºC and up. I doubt if the temperature of the 6550C power transformer cover reaches 60ºC. With modern insulating materials core temperatures can easily be 150ºC so nothing to worry about.
A little sense is required here!

When I first read it, I thought it was dramatic licence, or else you meant your "glass" was acrylic.

It is possible to take things too literally, especially via SM and email etc. as you don't get the intonation you get with a voice. If I was that worried about it I wouldn't keep doing it.

However, now I have looked at the physics myself with the help of my friend Google, you only need to heat tempered glass to around 538C to un-temper it. But I think even that is beyond the reach of my amplifier so I am definitely OK.
