I used just chokes and valves in the power supply for the px25 amp at first eggfest. No resistors no capacitors. It is very difficult to implement, time is short these days, so I now use a Black Gate wkz before the valve shunt element.

There is a difference in sound, but it's a very minor trade off.

Sometimes you can get a perfectly good sounding supply with capacitors, you have to try different things until you like the sound, there is no substitute for personal experience. Many paper in oil capped power supplies don't sound right, but if you keep at it and keep collecting pio's you might hit lucky and get a wonderful sound. I have achieved this only a few times over the years, only very few pio caps have the right sound, many are rubbish.

Black Gates are much more consistent but compared to the no r no c supply they add a tone of their own.
