Getting back to the subject, it seems that, like so many things, PayPal is fine until something goes wrong. I've heard so many horror stories now that I'm going to cancel my direct debit authorization from the bank end, and see what happens. It certainly isn't easy to revert to having a credit card as the primary account once they have verified your bank account. All my future payments will be from a credit card account. At least if they take money from it without authorization I can refuse to pay the bill.

Unfortunately, PayPal is just too convenient to do without - until it happens to you.

That's exactly what I do for large purchases, keep the current account for low value items.

Have a look at the Community Pages of eBay for PAYPAL problems and successes.

I have removed my cards from paypal and changed my password to one even I can't remember.

Just bought somnething and the guy said paypal I said sorry not, becuase your listing says you take credit cards. He said, oh but that's through paypal, I said sorry no. He's decided to accept a cheque.

I certainly won't trust paypal again.

For me after using them some 4 years and them always clearing my mony imediately, out of the blue they told the sellers they would have to wait 10 days for my money. This when I had just purchased a flue gas analyser which I needed pronto, and had to race around trying to borrow so that I could continue to do my job.

I believe Mark has lost thousands because someone managed to hack into his account.

Aginst Mark's problem I have removed both my cards and won't pay through them ever again, and against mine they brassed me off so they lost goodwill in one fail swoop.

In one sense the 10 days and Marks loss are connected. Mark should be able ot recover his money (I certainly hope so anyway), but from the perspsective of a real seller, if Marks card was used to purchase something, then they would see PayPal taking the money back out of their accounts, and point the finger at PayPal.

Its all a mess, like most things mainly down to crooks. :-(

Mastercard have written off all the bogus entries and even apologised for the inconvenience .

I wonder how their relationship with PayPal is going, however ?

No real info as to what I need to do to prevent it happening again , however - I suppose just keep up the updates on Zone Alarm, AVG and Ad-Aware ?
I might make my password on PayPal more complex, as people suggested .

Now to order some more stuff then . What first ? he he ..

Well I have stopped using paypal, and I changed my password to such an obscure one I've forgotten it, and I didn't keep a record.

The sellers don't mind waiting and neither do I. It's not like I buy anything for a living.
