FWIW I have mine on a shelf close by where I can just reach out to it from where I sit, so the speaker cables are summat like 15 feet long. Sort of in that area. Seems to work alright

Not really far apart - like the looks of seperate power amps
Over the years, have noticed a slight improvement in the sound from the speakers (tighter control etc) when the power amps are seperated than when in a single chassis sharing the same PSU.

Was just wondering that is all.

Sorry to chop in here, I'm trying to find out more about this 'slow start' option using damper diodes-it's a long topic to trawl through-who supplies 'em please?. Can't find any reference to them in Maplin and CPC sites
or catalogues unless they go by another name.

Looks like base socket is normal noval, top connector same size as the octal ones. Can get top caps from Chelmer Valve Co. Mushroom shaped ones

Top caps are 1/4" ,I use Chinese ceramic ones.

The base is a B9d (magnoval) as on the data sheet. My source for both is e-bay although hi-fi collective stock the top caps (as 6mm = 1/4").
Note that the top terminal is not the anode,it's the cathode !!

Dave-what HT will you be using with these damper diodes (if you go with them) ?

Raw HT is 530 volts. Ta for response and data. If I choose this route it would mean rebuilding in a bigger case to fit the extra 'tubes', and there is the cost/benefit to consider, these are all inexpensive valves in my amp.
Having said that, is slow starting beneficial to other components in valve amps aswell?

Ah yes alright, like noval but thicker pins and bigger centre hole.


Seems like a lot of hassle to me, I'd just stick in a octal socket and a GZ something or other FW rectifier.
