Re: A complete newbie builds KEL84 (hopefully)
I had a pair of 773e when I built my Kel84, as I remember it worked very well with them,

Re: A complete newbie builds KEL84 (hopefully)
primalsea..i have a leak st 20, halco resistors, a/n copper caps, built kel84 about a month ago. i like the kel better. its just sounds rite, more of everything. cleaner. not up on tech speek. hearing things on LP that i never heard before. bigger sound stage more detail. the longer its on the better it gets. so what im saying is , for me the kel84 wins .

Re: A complete newbie builds KEL84 (hopefully)
Looks like I'm getting one when I get some time.
I showed Kerri the amp advert in Hifi World and said I might get one. She did'nt shout at me but just said that if she did'nt know me better she would have said i'm a geek. I think this is the best approval I can expect. The leak is for a friend who has gone a bit valve amp mad. He has bought 3 Yarland EL34 amps and will soon have the Leak as well. It will soon look like Blackpool at Christmas in his house with them all going. Out of interest what did you replace the 773e's with. Theres not many speakers that I have herd that I like better. These would be Martin Logan Summit (£9000), The old Kef Reference seakers, can't remember the name but they are about 12 years old and very big. Also the old floorstanding Epos MS22 (not sure about the model). I herd lots of speakers at last years Hifi show but many of them sounded quite terrible. Whether this was the speakers or that the systems were just set up badly I dont know. |

Re: A complete newbie builds KEL84 (hopefully)
Sadly I have crossed over the line, I am a geek, but I'm old enough now to make my own decisions and do those things which bring me pleasure as long as they don't do anyone else any harm. If that is different to what other people like to do, then they can stay home.

Re: A complete newbie builds KEL84 (hopefully)
Geek pride, thats what we need. Loads of mottos we can pinch, though some may work better than others. I though of
"Glad to be obsessivly concerned about things others think of as pointless trivia". Maybe not as much impact that one. "Anyway, brothers and sisters, its time to come out of the shed, and tell the world, 'I am a geek, and proud of the fact'. What do you mean, you did, and it said shut up and stop being silly?"

Hi All, It is a sad fact that we (music lovers) are all now considered to be 'geeks' or 'anaraks',as listening to music seriously,as an artform in it's own right, seems to be of no concern to the average household nowadays. When i show my enthusiasm to those who haven't experienced the joy of listening to music on decent music replay equipment i am repeatedly told "I just don't have the time to listen to music" Why then do people still buy CD's,if they don't listen to them properly That is what i like the most about our forum, that feeling of unity,i am no longer a lone 'geek',i am part of a big family of 'geeks' Back from my hols, can't you tell Martin Last edited by Martin213; 25th August 2006 at 08:15 PM. |

I think you're find that most people don't have time to listen to music because watching TV takes up all their free time.
