Thanks for the kind words chaps.

Hi Greg, thanks for the tip. I'm thinking about removing the step ups from the PHONO II and mounting them in a separate box so I'll look in to this.

Buddam,

I see you're now the proud owner of a pair of 206s - welcome to the Fostex club! Any thoughts which cabinet you might try? Most of them should give pretty good results.

Simon.

Simon thanks for the encouragement. I'm going for the 208ESigma cabs as per Scottmoose's recommendation. These cost £250 from Wilmslow, and I'll probably think about building them in the new year.

Between now and then I'll read all I can on the web about cabs and drivers

Hi Adrian,

I hadn't realised Wilmslow had started doing flat packs for Fostex. The times they are a changing. Good luck with the build - it should be pretty straight forward with the flat packs and square edges. Probably the most difficult bit will be having enough cramps for glueing up. Just ask if you think I can help.

Simon.

Thanks Simon. Not sure if I can get cutting instructions from Wilmslow. Flat packs come in plain MDF & I'd like to use ply. Plenty of time to find out as I'm not planning on building till new year. Where do you live - may well need help

Hi Adrian-the plans, including a cutting list,of the FE208 cabinet are on the Fostex web site.

I found this difficult to understand until i saw the build article yesterday then it all made sense.

Isn't that scariledge?

I'd bug them for proper plywood ones... and i'd be quite forceful...

HI All
I am about to start building planet 10s Frugel-Horn with the fostex 126e I was going to build with MDF and cover all sides with 3mmPly for good finish but can I ask why I should not use MDF I have a question on two points I want to ask about
1< should I line the horn wall if so what is best for this
2< this one’s for planet 10 what do you use to damp the back of the 126e and the cone
Thanks
Colin

Colin,

Some have built their Frugel-Horns with MDF, but personally i think that is a waste of time. The difference in cost between Baltic Birch & MDF is small compard to the effort you'll be putting in to build them, and i'm convinced that BB is clearly superior. BB is much stiffer, which pushes the resonances up where there is far less energy to excite them, and it has a better energy storage profile (stores less energy & releases it quicker).

(when you are surfing the forums where people are building their horns take note of hom many times you see "and the next ones will definitely be made from plywood")

Today i was working on the revised plans for a build with 15 mm material (not everyone has the luxury of having both 12 & 15mm lying about, and 15mm is easy to work with than 12).

I use ductseal to damp & to shape the FE126 baskets (~70g), and use a piece of 10-12mm wool felt on the flat side of the magnet. Cones are treated with damar in a specific pattern to kill a couple cone resonances, and then the whole thing done with a couple thinned coats of puzzlecoat.

Pictures & the link to the preliminary cone treatment thread on the full range forum are here http://www.planet10-hifi.com/fostex.html

You can see Scott's 126 there too.
