Mine is a Mk4 and it looks different. I know a photo would save a thousand words but I haven't got a photo - try to post one tonight.

Now this afternoon, feeling like death warmed slightly over, words are failing me fast.

Buuuuuuut the obvious difference is the bias weight arrangement thing. Mine hangs down off a thread. like SME and Haddock. This one is more mechanical - wonder which is better? My counterweight is bigger too.

Hi-is it the same as my Sonus Formula 4 ?

From your description it seems likely.

I have to do a few mods on the 401 armboard so when the arm is parked the weight bucket does not hit it.

Phil, is the arm-wand actually kinked or is it the photo? Not seen that before, S-bends and staright but never kinked.

to be fair it would have been much easier to mount the arm at 209mm which I think would have perhaps produced better results

It sounds to me as if your arm has been set up using a Loefgren protractor which requires an overhang of 17.2mm

Baerwald uses OH 18.8mm

The nul points change however. For Baerwald null points are 66.0 and 120.9 mm and for Loefgren null points are 70.3 and 116.6 mm.

Most arm companies quoted OH at 15mm. It appears this was b/c the 7" 45 centre hole adaptors which came with TT had a grove in them. This was at 15mm so that the arms could be easily and simply set up.

e.g. OH at 15mm, eff length is 245mm = Mounting at 230mm.

Mayware: Eff Length 229, OH 17.2mm = Mounting 211.8mm Nul points must be at 70.3mm & 116.6mm.

Probably complicates things even more!!!

it does complicate things a tad,

vinyl engine give the mkIII as an effective length of 229+/-3mm so 226 or 232mm,an overhang of 17.2mm so if you use the mounting distance of 215 as suggested by mayware you get to 232,

if I'm right the Clearaudio jig uses a linear offset technique with a single null of 63.5mm, which is a third way?,

David

So what distance have you mounted at?
I know with my Haddock I had nothing but trouble in relation to the mounting, and that was with their jig!!!

Do you know the headshell offset angle? (Not VE's)

all this started because I mounted it at 215mm to get it further away from the deck, I assumed because the instructions said it was ok it would work

the offset as far as I can tell with a protractor is 23 degrees,

I must admit that having set it up with the jig it does sound good,
